The show stays close to the book here, with nothing major changed, cut, or invented.
Two seasons that could not be more different to map. Season 1 is a faithful, near chapter-for-chapter adaptation. Season 2 leaves the manga almost immediately, cuts whole arcs including Goldy Pond and the Seven Walls, and compresses the remainder into a handful of episodes with an ending that is not the manga's. That is why both seasons point you to the same place: nothing season 2 shows you can be relied on as a position in the book.
