This page tracks the DONGHUA (Chinese animation, B.C May Pictures / Tencent Penguin Pictures, 3 seasons, 2018-2021) against Mo Xiang Tong Xiu's original novel, published in English by Seven Seas across 5 volumes. THE UNTAMED (2019), the live-action adaptation of the same novel, is a separate production covered by a different scope call: it is a single complete 50-episode run rather than a multi-year release, and it carries its own, heavier round of censorship-driven changes. It is not mapped by this page. Both screen versions answer to Chinese platform content rules that keep Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji's relationship implicit; the novel (and its manhua) states it directly -- of the three, the novel is plainest, the donghua sits in the middle, and The Untamed softens it the most. The 30-episode chibi spinoff 'Mo Dao Zu Shi Q' (2020-2021) and the 2020 prequel film 'Fatal Journey' (a Qinghe Nie sect side story about a young Nie Mingjue and Nie Huaisang, not the main Wei Wuxian/Lan Wangji timeline) both exist outside what this page tracks; no source consulted ties Fatal Journey to a specific novel chapter, so it is named here rather than guessed at.
