Season 1 (24 episodes, October 22, 2023-March 24, 2024) adapts light novel volumes 1-2 in full. Continue from volume 3. Multiple sources converge on this cutoff; one reading-order guide instead places the boundary two volumes later, but that figure is hard to square with the confirmed volume-4 finish for Season 2 below, so the earlier, better-corroborated cutoff is used here.

- CutThe anime trims much of Maomao's interior deduction process; the light novel spends far more time inside her head working through each mystery step by step.
The source is the LIGHT NOVEL by Natsu Hyuuga (illustrated by Touco Shino) -- 16 volumes in Japan as of 2025, ongoing, with no sign of wrapping up; all 16 are available in English (J-Novel Club digitally, Square Enix Manga & Books in print since May 2024). A separate manga adaptation (art by Nekokurage) exists on its own chapter numbering and runs behind the anime's pace -- as of Season 2's finale it had reached only chapter 80, short of the season's actual stopping point -- so it is not tracked here, matching this dataset's Batch 2 convention (Re:Zero, Mushoku Tensei, Overlord, Sword Art Online, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime) of following the light novel over the manga. Season 3 is confirmed for October 2, 2026 in a split-cour format (second half April 2027), and a movie original story written by Hyuuga herself, 'The Deceased Empress' Treasure,' is dated December 11, 2026 -- but neither has aired as of this build (August 17, 2026), so neither gets a unit yet and seasonsCount holds at 2.
