What the show changed here

  • InventedSam Jordan, a trans man and friend of Hero's, is created for the show to explore gender more fully than the comic did.
  • ChangedThe show follows Yorick's mother in the White House far more; in the comic a different official, not his mother, ends up president.
  • ChangedYorick is modernised from a 2000s pop-culture man-child into a present-day mess; Hero is rewritten as an addict in recovery.
  • ChangedThe story widens well past Yorick's viewpoint into Pentagon and political subplots the comic only glances at early on.
Sources disagree slightly on this one, so we used the earlier chapter. You may re-read a little rather than risk reading past yourself.

The single season broadly covers the events of the first two volumes but stays with Yorick far less closely than the comic, inventing political storylines and new characters. It was cancelled after one season, so the ten-volume story is left almost entirely unread.
