What the show changed here
- ChangedVic is 18 when she meets Maggie; in the book she's a 13-year-old girl, so the show ages up her whole early arc.
- ChangedCharlie Manx is played less as a fantastical monster and more as a real man with monstrous habits.
- InventedThe abduction that first pulls Vic toward Manx (a neighborhood girl, Haley) is invented for the show.
- InventedBing Partridge is introduced here as a janitor at Vic's school, a role he doesn't have in the book.
AMC's two seasons together adapt Joe Hill's single 2013 novel: season one covers the earlier events, season two the latter half, concluding the core conflict. The series was cancelled after two seasons having told the whole novel's story. The book is one self-contained volume.
